Fire razes storehouse

TANGERANG, West Java (JP): A chemical storehouse belonging to a South Korean glue factory was destroyed by fire on Friday.

There were no fatalities but the fire is believed to have inflicted extensive financial losses on PT Dong Sung Indonesia.

Smoke was still rising from the debris of the building located in Kampung Dumpit in Jatiuwung district yesterday as police investigated the cause of the blaze. The area was cordoned off.

A preliminary report cited a short circuit as the cause of the blaze.

Due to the highly inflamable content of the storehouse, it took more than 12 hours for firefighters to put the fire out. Five fire trucks were dispatched to the location on Friday night.

They had to use special chemical substances to extinguish the fire, Prana Sigit, one of the firemen, said. The substances were also sprayed onto the roofs of dozens of nearby houses. (28/bsr)
