Fire razes hundreds of kiosks in Kendari
KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: The Mandonga market, the biggest
in Southeast Sulawesi provincial capital of Kendari caught fire,
razing 600 of the 1,000 kiosks in the market.
The fire was extinguished within two hours after the city
administration deployed two water tankers. The police are still
investigating the cause of the blaze.
Witnesses said the fire started from a second-hand garment
kiosk.
Traders who could not salvage their goods criticized the fire
brigade for their slow response. The fire was the second since
last September.
Kendari Police precinct chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Sumaryoto said
the police have deployed a hundred security personnel to maintain
security and prevent residents from looting the market. --Antara
