Fire razes 14 houses

JAKARTA (JP): Fourteen houses on Jl. H. Ung, Utan Panjang in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, were engulfed by fire on Saturday morning.

The fire started at about 7:30 a.m. and lasted for approximately two hours before it was put out with the help of 11 fire engines.

No casualties were reported.

The fire spread to houses in units of the neighborhood.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. However, Utan Panjang district head Rahman Sidik believes it may have started from one of the warung (food stalls) in the area.

Police confirmed that the owners of two warung that went up in flames were questioned at Kemayoran subprecinct on Saturday afternoon. (dja)
