Fire Patrols Intensify at Mount Bromo as Officials Cite Human Error

Joint officers continue to stand guard 24 hours a day to monitor the development of the fire in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) area, East Java. Patrols are being conducted into the night to ensure that no new hotspots appear and to prevent remaining embers from flaring up and spreading to other areas. Vigilance has been heightened after the fire in the Bromo area grew larger on Saturday night (8/8/2026). Officials confirmed that the entire area remains completely closed to visitors to ensure public safety and to give officers space to handle and monitor the fire. Patrols and monitoring will continue until the area is declared completely safe and all potential fire points are under control.

Meanwhile, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that his office is continuously coordinating with the Ministry of Forestry and the East Java Provincial Government. He expressed hope that the firefighting efforts in Bromo could be completed soon. Prasetyo also reminded the public to be more vigilant regarding the potential for fires, urging them to avoid activities that could trigger sparks, especially given the current very dry weather conditions.

Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago suspects the forest fire on Mount Bromo was caused by human error. He noted that the cold temperatures in the area might have led visitors to light fires to keep warm and then forget to extinguish them. He also recalled previous incidents where photography activities had triggered fires. While confirming that the situation is now largely under control with only one or two hotspots remaining, he affirmed the suspicion that the fire was due to human error rather than natural factors.
