Fire on Jalan Baru Depok Destroys Seven Kiosks, Suspected Electrical Short Circuit

A fire destroyed several semi-permanent structures on Jalan Baru, Kampung Lio, Depok. A total of seven kiosks were burnt down.

“The fire is suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit in a laundry kiosk,” said Tessy Haryati, Head of Operational Control at the Depok City Fire and Rescue Service (DPKP), when contacted on Sunday (14/6/2026).

Tessy stated that seven stalls and kiosks were affected: a laundry kiosk, a scrap stall, a motorcycle workshop, a cutting sticker workshop, a mobile phone credit counter, a coffee shop, and a pigeon kiosk.

“The number of victims evacuated was 22 men, 5 women, and approximately 100 people from the surrounding community,” she said.

Seven fire engines and 23 personnel were deployed to extinguish the blaze. By 9:00 PM Western Indonesian Time, the fire had been successfully put out.

The Depok Fire Service received information about the fire earlier in the afternoon, at around 5:31 PM Western Indonesian Time. The fire started in a shop house (ruko) and spread to the semi-permanent structures.

“It was on Jalan Baru, parallel to the railway tracks behind the City Government office. Initially, the fire was in a shop house, but they are all semi-permanent, yes, the stalls were on fire,” she explained.

There were no fatalities in the incident. The extent of the losses is still under investigation.

“There are no casualties, the losses are still being investigated, because reports from the field indicate a scrap shop also caught fire,” she said.
