Fire kills 3 sisters

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: Three sisters perished in a grisly fire on Jl. Abdul Kadir in Makassar on Wednesday night, while their eldest sister, Indah, escaped the flames.

According to witnesses, the mother of the four sisters, Rosmini, left the children asleep in their room while she attended a wedding reception close to their home.

Not long after Rosmini arrived at the reception, screams warning of a fire were heard. Rosmini and others quickly ran to the house but found it engulfed by flames.

Rosmini apparently had left candles burning in the girls' room as the house was not connected to power.

On the same night, fires also broke out in two other locations in the city. Fire razed a 60-room boardinghouse on Jl. Biringkaraya and a warehouse belonging to a hotel. -- Antara
