Fire incident case: Terra Drone Indonesia CEO sentenced to 1 year and 4 months' imprisonment

Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Central Jakarta District Court has sentenced Michael Wisnu Wardhana, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PT Terra Drone Indonesia, to 1 year and 4 months in prison in a case involving a Terra Drone building fire that killed 22 people. ‘The panel of judges finds the defendant Michael Wisnu Wardhana proven guilty of committing a crime, because his negligence resulted in the deaths of others,’ said Chief Judge Purwanto S Abdullah when delivering the verdict at the Central Jakarta District Court (PN Jakpus) on Thursday. The sentence for Michael is lighter than the Prosecutor’s Office demands (JPU) of two years in prison. Earlier, the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Jakarta Pusat District Attorney’s Office, Daru Iqbal Mursid, had demanded the CEO of Terra Drone Indonesia, Michael Wisnu Wardana, be sentenced to two years’ imprisonment in the fire case that killed 22 people. ‘We ask the panel of judges to declare that the defendant Michael Wisnu Wardana has been proven legally and convincingly to have committed a crime,’ Daru said in Jakarta, on Monday (11 May). The prosecutor also asked the panel of judges to state that the defendant was proven to have committed a crime that caused the deaths of others due to negligence. In addition, the JPU requested that the defendant be sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, with the defendant to remain in custody. The defendant Michael Wisnu Wardhana was charged under and punishable by Article 474 paragraph (3) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Indonesian Penal Code. The defendant’s actions fit within Article 188 of the KUHP, which provides for offences due to negligence that cause fire, explosion, or flood and endanger the lives of others or public safety of property.
