Fire in Sarudik, Sibolga: One House Destroyed, Firefighters Contain Blaze

Panic gripped residents of Jalan Jetro Hutagalung, Lingkungan IV, Sarudik Village, Central Tapanuli, on Saturday (18/7) afternoon. One house was completely destroyed by fire in the incident, which occurred around 5.15 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. The sudden flames triggered panic among local residents. People scrambled to save themselves and their belongings, whilst attempting to extinguish the fire with makeshift tools to prevent it from spreading to the densely populated surrounding buildings. Head of the Sibolga City Fire Department, Hendra Tobing, confirmed that his team responded swiftly to the report. Firefighting Team I was deployed to the scene with a Hino fire engine and full personnel. ‘We responded to the residents’ report immediately. Team I headed straight to the location to extinguish the fire,’ Hendra said on Saturday. After intensive efforts lasting approximately one hour, the fire was fully extinguished by 6.35 p.m. The rapid response by officers was deemed a key factor in successfully localising the fire and preventing it from spreading to other houses in the vicinity. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident. However, the house where the fire originated suffered severe damage. As of the time of reporting, the exact cause of the fire and the total material losses are still under investigation and assessment by the authorities. This incident serves as an important reminder for communities in the Sibolga area and its surroundings to remain vigilant against potential fire hazards, especially in residential areas.
