Fire in Kosambi, Tangerang, Destroys 20 Warehouses
A fire struck dozens of warehouses in the Kosambi Permai Warehouse Area, Kosambi District, Tangeraya Regency, Banten, on Wednesday (16/9) afternoon.
Based on circulating videos, intense flames were visible alongside thick plumes of black smoke rising high into the sky. The fire caused panic among local residents, prompting several large vehicles in the area to be moved away from the site.
The Head of the Tangerang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Achmad Taufik, stated that the firefighting process is still ongoing. According to preliminary data, 20 warehouses have been burnt.
“Twenty have already been burnt; currently, our teams are wetting the warehouses that have not yet caught fire, hopefully to prevent the fire from spreading to the next buildings,” said Taufik.
Taufik admitted that the contents of the warehouses have not yet been identified, as most of the structures have already collapsed.
“Because the warehouses are already in a collapsed state, we do not yet know what kind of warehouses they are or what their contents were, as they have already burnt,” he explained.
Taufik noted that four fire engine units were deployed to handle the blaze. Additionally, firefighting assistance was provided by the Soekarno-Hatta Airport authorities and the Kosambi Permai Warehouse Area management.
“Additional units from the nearest fire stations in Mauk, Pasar Kemis, Sepatan, and Kosambi are currently en route,” he added.
Taufik emphasised that, so far, no fatalities or injuries have been reported in connection with the fire. Furthermore, the BPBD has not yet been able to conclude the suspected cause of the blaze.
“For now, we are focusing on the handling of the situation. The cause has not yet been determined,” he said.
Soekarno-Hatta Airport operations remain normal.
Management at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has ensured that all flight operations continue to run normally, safely, and smoothly following the fire incident near the airport’s outer perimeter at 12:55 WIB.
According to monitoring by the Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC), the incident did not disrupt flight operations.
“All aircraft departures and arrivals are confirmed to be proceeding according to schedule,” said Yudistiawan, Assistant Deputy of Communication & Legal at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Branch Office, on Wednesday.
Yudis stated that the situation at the scene is currently being handled intensively by the relevant parties. His office continues to monitor the situation and coordinate with relevant authorities to ensure the area surrounding the airport remains safe.
“Flight safety and security remain our top priority,” said Yudis. Passengers are advised to remain calm and follow information updates through official airport communication channels or their respective airlines.
