Fire in Kebon Melati residential area still spreading, 22 units deployed
A fire struck a residential area on Jalan Dukuh Pinggir I, Kebon Melati Urban Village, Tanah Abang District, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday evening, and was still being extinguished with the deployment of 22 fire engines.
Head of Operations Section of the Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department (Sudin Gulkarmat) Triyanto said the fire report was received by officers at 6.00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time from the public.
“Officers arrived at the location at 6.03 p.m. Western Indonesia Time and immediately began extinguishing operations one minute later,” Triyanto said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The fire location is on Jalan Dukuh Pinggir I RT 001/RW 005, Kebon Melati, with a landmark near Karet Station.
Personnel from the Kebon Melati Post were the initial element deployed to handle the fire.
As of the time this report was made, the fire was still spreading, so the extinguishing process continued.
A total of 22 fire engines with 110 personnel were deployed to control the blaze.
The object that caught fire is known to be a residential house with a low-rise building type.
Officers were still working to localise the fire so that it would not spread to surrounding buildings.
As of now, officers have not reported the time the fire was successfully localised or the cooling process.
The cause of the fire and whether there were any casualties or material losses were also still being handled by officers.
