Jakarta (ANTARA) - West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Sudin Gulkarmat) officers successfully controlled a fire that engulfed a warehouse on Jalan Satu Maret, Prepedan, Kalideres, West Jakarta, on Friday.

Head of Operations for West Jakarta Gulkarmat, Syaiful Kahfi, stated on Friday evening that the handling process has now entered the cooling phase. “It is safe now, just cooling down. Hopefully it will be finished soon,” he said.

Syaiful explained that when officers arrived at the scene, the fire had already grown large, making it difficult to immediately determine the point of origin. However, he confirmed that the spread of the fire to other nearby buildings was successfully prevented.

According to initial reports, the warehouse has four floors. Fortunately, the blaze did not consume the entire building but was concentrated on the upper floors. “Not everything burned. Initial information indicates the fire was on the third and fourth floors, while the first and second floors are safe. It was reported earlier that the fire was on the third floor, but now only the fourth floor is being cooled down,” Syaiful said.

Currently, West Jakarta Gulkarmat is focusing on completing the extinguishing of the remaining embers. An investigation into the cause of the fire will be conducted later. “The cause is not yet known. We are just cooling down now,” he added.

Previously, the West Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-department received a public report of the fire at 17:16 WIB. Officers from the Kalideres Sector Office moved quickly and arrived at the location at 17:23 WIB. Given the combustible materials inside the warehouse, officers deployed up to 20 fire engine units, including one skylift unit to reach the fire points on the upper floors, supported by 100 personnel.

Based on initial data collection at the scene, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. Authorities have also not yet been able to estimate the total material losses caused by the fire.
