Fire Hits Jatibarang Landfill in Semarang
The methane gas content caused the flames burning through the waste piles to become quite large.
Semarang (ANTARA) - A fire struck the Jatibarang Landfill (TPA) in Semarang, Central Java, on Wednesday night.
Dozens of fire engines and water tankers entered the Jatibarang Landfill in rotation to carry out firefighting efforts.
The Head of the Semarang City Fire and Rescue Service, Sih Rianung, stated that the fire affected zones 1, 2, and 3.
He estimated that the area affected by the fire reached approximately 10 hectares.
“Officers are attempting to localise the burning area to prevent it from spreading,” he said.
Seven fire engines, he noted, were stationed at various points to spray water supplied by water tankers.
He added that around 50 firefighters were deployed to assist in the firefighting process.
