Fire hits BTN Tower

JAKARTA: The 14th floor of Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) Tower on Jl. Gajah Mada No. 1, Central Jakarta, was gutted by fire early on Saturday.

The fire also caused an electricity blackout in the building, said Soeryanto, the bank's credit director.

All tenants in the building were forced to temporarily halt their weekend activities, including Ramaco radio station whose offices are on the 19th floor of the building.

"We hope all the building's activities return to normal on Monday," Soeryanto said.

The fire began at 1 a.m. but it was extinguished before it could spread to other parts of the building an hour after 10 fire trucks cordoned off the scene. -- Antara
