Fire guts homes in Tubagus Angke

JAKARTA: Dozens of homes in a slum near Tubagus Angke railway station in West Jakarta were gutted by fire on Saturday at about 9:20 p.m., but there were no reports of casualties.

Some 80 fire-fighters, who arrived on 20 fire trucks, had difficulty extinguishing the fire as they could not find adequate water sources, Ali Baskoro, one of the fire-fighters, said.

"We also tried to determine where the fire started," Baskoro said.

Residents living near the fire scene assisted the fire- fighters in finding water sources.

The losses caused by the fire were still being assessed, Baskoro said.

Meanwhile, police have temporarily closed the area around the fire scene on Jl. Tubagus Angke. --Antara
