Fire guts freighter

BANDAR LAMPUNG: A freighter carrying fertilizer was gutted by fire at Panjang port late on Tuesday, Antara reported yesterday.

All crew members of the MV Columbia survived the fire, but the captain, identified as Nenok, suffered minor injuries after falling down while trying to save some documents.

Port authorities towed the 424-deadweight-ton vessel two miles offshore to prevent the fire from spreading to other ships.

The freighter had originally planned to sail to Tanjungpandang port in Riau on Tuesday.
