Fire Extinguished, Operations Return to Normal at Cipayung Landfill in Depok
Operations at the Cipayung final disposal site (TPA) in Depok have returned to normal following a fire on Thursday night. Monitoring at the location on Friday morning showed that fire engines had left the area, while a queue of rubbish trucks had formed outside the entrance. Inside the TPA, the previously burning waste had turned to ash, with a burnt smell still lingering in the air. Heavy machinery at the site has also resumed operations, moving waste to the upper sections of the landfill. The fire occurred on Thursday at 19:30 WIB. The Head of the Depok Environmental and Sanitation Department, Reni Siti, stated that the fire originated from a pile of waste underneath the surface. She confirmed that the fire was extinguished by 22:52 WIB and that the cause is still under investigation.
