Fire at the auditorium of Binus University in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, has been extinguished. Firefighters say the cause is still under investigation.

‘Not yet. It’s being processed with the police,’ said Syaiful Kahfi, Head of the Operations Section of the West Jakarta Fire Department (Sudin Gulkarmat Jakarta Barat), at Binus Anggrek Campus, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, on Friday (22 May 2026).

Syaiful explained that the fire was reported around 05:30 WIB. The West Jakarta Fire Department then deployed 12 fire engines with around 60 personnel to the scene.

According to him, the fire originated in the auditorium on the 5th floor. When crews arrived, the area was already filled with thick smoke.

‘As soon as we arrived, the condition of the building on the 5th floor was already full of smoke, very thick. So we had to enter using breathing apparatus, then we carried out firefighting and searched for the fire points,’ he said.

He said the ignition points were difficult to locate because of the dense smoke. Crews then dismantled the ceiling.

‘We opened up all the ceilings down to the corridor; there are no large fire points left. It may only be small embers left,’ he added.

The fire did not spread to other rooms. Based on preliminary checks, the fire only burned the auditorium area on the 5th floor of the campus building.

Detikcom footage at 10:15 WIB showed all firefighting vehicles leaving Binus Anggrek Campus. The campus gate remained closed.
