Fire Erupts at Hospital Construction Project in Denpasar, Workers Briefly Trapped
A fire occurred at the Amerta Husadha Hospital construction site on Jalan Raya Sesetan on Wednesday (29/7/2026). At least seven fire engines were deployed to the scene.
During the incident, plumes of smoke were seen billowing from the upper floors of the hospital. However, no visible flames were observed spreading through the building. The hospital is still under construction, so there were no patients inside, but work was ongoing on the upper floors.
An eyewitness at the scene, Rohim, stated that the incident occurred around 10.30 WITA. He said the fire originated on the sixth floor of the hospital. Rohim, who was working on the fifth floor, experienced shortness of breath but managed to escape.
‘It happened on the sixth floor; on the fifth floor, I already couldn’t breathe,’ Rohim said when met at the location. He mentioned that there were around 30 people working on the project on the sixth floor. However, all of them were successfully evacuated, although one person fainted. Authorities have yet to provide an official statement following the incident.
‘There were about 30 people working upstairs, they are all safe now. Only one person fainted,’ he said. The incident also caused traffic congestion in both directions around Jalan Raya Sesetan.
