Fire engulfs resident's home in Krendang, West Jakarta on Thursday night

A fire engulfed a residential property at Jalan Krendang Barat Gang 2 No. 3, RT 13 RW 6, Krendang Village, Tambora Subdistrict, West Jakarta, on Thursday evening.

Syaiful Kahfi, Head of Operations for the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat), stated that the incident was first reported by residents to the Krendang Fire Station around 7:47 PM WIB.

‘The fire service immediately responded to the scene and commenced firefighting operations from 7:54 PM WIB,’ Syaiful said when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday night.

He added that the fire status was initially raised to red alert and remained under control during the operation.

However, as the flames grew larger and there was concern of spreading to nearby buildings in the densely populated area, additional personnel and equipment were deployed.

‘The second phase totalled 14 fire engines with 60 personnel,’ Syaiful Kahfi said.

The cause of the fire and any casualties remain unknown at this time.
