Fire Engulfs Jatiwaringin Landfill in Tangerang, Thick Black Smoke Billows
A fire has struck the Jatiwaringin Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Mauk District, Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Tuesday (30/6) afternoon. Officers are still working to extinguish the blaze burning through mounds of waste at the location. According to a report from the Operations Control Centre (Pusdalops) of the Tangerang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the fire was reported to have started around 11.00 WIB. To handle the incident, the Tangerang Regency BPBD deployed six fire engines and 30 personnel to the site. βIt is currently still being handled,β a Pusdalops BPBD officer said when contacted. Video footage received from Pusdalops BPBD shows flames raging across the waste mountain with thick black smoke billowing high into the air. Firefighters arriving at the location had to work to reach the seat of the fire located in the middle of the waste piles, a condition that complicated the extinguishing process. In another video recorded by officers in the field, the flames can be seen consuming a large area within the landfill site. Officers are continuing to fight the fire and attempting to localise the flames to prevent them from spreading to other parts of the Jatiwaringin Final Disposal Site. The cause of the fire and the extent of the losses resulting from the incident are still under investigation.
