Fire Engulfs Jatiwaringin Landfill in Tangerang, Thick Black Smoke Billows

A fire struck the Jatiwaringin Landfill in Mauk District, Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Tuesday (30/6) afternoon. As of now, officers are still working to extinguish the flames consuming the waste piles at the site.

According to reports from the Operations Control Centre (Pusdalops) of the Tangerang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the fire was reported to have occurred around 11:00 WIB.

To manage the incident, the Tangerang Regency BPBD deployed six fire engine units along with 30 personnel to the location.

“At this moment, the situation is still being handled,” an official from the BPBD Pusdalops stated when confirmed.

Based on video footage received from the BPBD Pusdalops, flames were seen raging across the waste mounds, with thick plumes of black smoke rising high into the air.

Firefighters arriving at the scene had to struggle to reach the fire’s core, which was located deep within the waste piles. This condition has complicated the firefighting process.

In other footage recorded by officers on the ground, it was evident that the flames had consumed a considerable area within the landfill complex.

Currently, officers continue their efforts to extinguish the fire and attempt to localise the blaze to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the Jatiwaringin Landfill. The cause of the fire and the extent of the losses resulting from the incident are still under investigation.
