A fire engulfed a frame factory on Jalan Lampiri, RT 04/RW 12, Pondok Kelapa Urban Village, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, in the early hours of Wednesday.

“The object that caught fire is a low-rise frame factory on Jalan Lampiri, RT4/RW12, Pondok Kelapa, Duren Sawit (a landmark near Perguruan Rakyat School),” said Abdul Wahid, Head of Operations Section of the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department, in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He said his office received information about the fire from a resident who contacted the fire service at around 00.25 Western Indonesia Time.

After receiving the report, officers carried out an initial deployment from Duren Sawit Sector to the scene.

Officers arrived at the location at around 00.30 Western Indonesia Time. Initial firefighting operations began at around 00.31 Western Indonesia Time.

“Officers carried out firefighting efforts while preventing the fire from spreading to other buildings around the location,” said Abdul.

The fire was localised at 03.30 Western Indonesia Time. After the fire was brought under control, officers continued with a cooling-down process to ensure there were no remaining flames or embers that could potentially reignite the fire.

“To handle the fire, a total of 25 fire engines were deployed. Twenty units came from the DKI Jakarta area, while five other units were assistance from Bekasi City,” explained Abdul.

In terms of personnel, the operation involved around 125 officers, with details of 100 personnel from Jakarta and 25 personnel from Bekasi City.

The deployment of assistance from surrounding areas was carried out to strengthen firefighting efforts and accelerate the fire control process because the object that caught fire was a factory building.

During the firefighting process, officers also faced a number of obstacles in the field. One of the main obstacles was that the water source was located quite far from the scene. This condition could affect the smooth supply of water during the firefighting process.

Apart from the water source issue, access to the scene was also reported to be narrow. The limited access conditions posed a challenge for fire engines to enter and manoeuvre optimally around the fire location.

There have been no reports of casualties as a result of the fire. The East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department is also still investigating the suspected cause of the fire.
