Fire Devours Plastic Resin Warehouse in Cikarang Timur, Bekasi

At least seven fire engines were deployed to tackle a fire at a plastic resin processing warehouse on Jalan Raya Citarik, Jatireja Village, Cikarang Timur District, Bekasi Regency, West Java, on Sunday.

“We deployed five units, consisting of four vehicles from the nearest station and one portable unit, as well as two units from Jababeka,” said Bohir, Platoon Commander of the Bekasi Regency Fire and Rescue Service, at the scene.

He stated that the firefighting efforts at Jalan Raya Citarik involved 25 personnel from the Bekasi Regency Fire and Rescue Service and six additional personnel from the Jababeka Industrial Estate.

Officers were mobilised after receiving reports from the industrial estate management to the Pilar Fire Station in North Cikarang, which was then forwarded to the central headquarters.

“We received the fire information this morning at around 06:30 WIB. Upon arriving at the location, black smoke was already billowing upwards and flames had already engulfed the warehouse building,” he said.

Bohir noted that officers faced obstacles due to relatively narrow access roads crowded with local residents.

“There were certainly difficulties, as the incident occurred in the morning and many people had already gathered. The access road is quite narrow, so our vehicles had to enter with difficulty,” he added.

“The officers eventually managed to extinguish the fire. Thankfully, there was no spread to surrounding buildings. We were able to manage it despite the relatively large flames,” he said.

Officers required approximately three to four hours to extinguish the fire and ensure the situation at the site was under control. No casualties were reported in the incident.

The plastic resin processing warehouse was reported to have been completely destroyed by the fire. A truck located within the warehouse area was also burnt.

“Since there was no activity at the time, it is possible that it was related to an electrical short circuit,” said Bohir.

Cikarang Timur Sector Police and the Bekasi Metro Police remain at the location to investigate the exact cause of the fire and to calculate the material losses incurred by the warehouse owner.
