Fire destroys Tangerang factory
TANGERANG (JP): Tangerang police have yet to trace the cause
of the fire which destroyed a swim-suit factory on Friday.
An officer who did not want to be identified said yesterday
that an investigation is now underway.
On Friday, a fire razed PT Kinzone International, located in
Kadu village in the Curug sub-district. It caused estimated
losses of Rp 100 million.
A firefighter told The Jakarta Post that the blaze broke out
at around 7.00 a.m when only a few workers had arrived for work.
He said the fire started in the meeting room located on the
second floor. It spread quickly to other buildings, including a
warehouse where 30 sewing machines were stored, a godown and
another room where raw materials were kept.
Firefighters
The fire did not spread to the production room owing to the
prompt arrival of four fire engines and dozens of firefighters.
They managed to put out the blaze at around 11.00.a.m.
The owner of the company, Wang Ing Hag said: "With regret I
have to announce that for the time being we have been forced to
lay off the workers for an indefinite period." He added however
that the workers will return to work as soon as the renovation of
the factory has been completed.
He did not announce whether employees would continue to be
paid while not working. (18/bas)
