Fire Destroys Restaurant Project Barracks in Canggu, Car Gutted and Losses Reach Rp 500 Million
The barracks of a restaurant project on Jalan Batu Mejan, Canggu Village, North Kuta District, Badung, Bali, was completely destroyed by fire. In addition to the building, the fire also consumed a number of vehicles. Total losses from the incident reached Rp 500 million.
“The incident occurred this afternoon at around ten minutes to two. Initially, there were sparks from an electrical cable in the project barracks. Because the location contained many flammable items, the fire spread very quickly and engulfed everything,” said Badung Police Public Relations Sub-section Head Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti on Thursday (20/8/2026).
The fire was reported by residents through the National Police Headquarters’ 110 complaint hotline at 2.11 pm local time. After receiving the report, North Kuta Police personnel led by Kompol I Ketut Sukadana and their team immediately moved to the location.
“As soon as the report was received, officers rushed to the scene while contacting the Badung Fire Department. Three fire engines were deployed until the fire was fully extinguished at around 2.25 pm local time,” said Ayu Inastuti.
The project foreman and witnesses at the scene, Tubagus Muhibudin (39) and Slamet Riyanto (46), had seen the initial emergence of the fire while inspecting the work area. However, gusts of wind and the abundance of flammable materials made the blaze difficult to extinguish manually.
“The witnesses and workers were checking the project work when suddenly the fire had already grown large. They did not have time to save the belongings inside the barracks because the flames were already too high,” said Ayu Inastuti.
The fire destroyed one project barracks unit, one garage tent, as well as a fleet of vehicles including a Toyota Crown Royal sedan and a scooter along with their registration documents. In addition, five water pump units, three rolls of electrical cable, and various project equipment and materials were also consumed by the blaze.
“There were no casualties or injuries. However, personal belongings such as a tablet, a wallet containing money and identity cards, and the car ownership book were also burned. Total losses are estimated at around Rp 500 million,” concluded Ayu Inastuti.
