Fire destroy 258 kiosks

PADANG, West Sumatra: Fire razed the Atas market in the
Bukittinggi regency and the Lawang market in the Agam regency
almost at the same time on Saturday, Antara reported.

At the Atas market the fire started at about 1:30 p.m. and
wasn't extinguished until 250 kiosks were destroyed.

It was the second fire that had occurred at the market since
1972, when the whole complex was burned to a crisp. It was also
the second biggest fire that had occurred in Bukittinggi within a
month after the Feb. 27 fire charred the Aur Kuning market.

The fire at the Lawang market gutted eight kiosks.

Officials said losses at the two markets had yet to be
estimated.(imn)
