JAKARTA (ANTARA) – North Jakarta’s Subdistrict Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) team successfully extinguished a stilt house fire in Muara Karang, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, less than an hour after receiving the report late Monday.

On-duty officer Eko Mahendro said the fire report was received at around 9pm and responders acted promptly, controlling the flames by 9:45pm.

“The fire occurred today in Muara Karang, where we received the report at 9pm and responded quickly. By 9:45pm, the fire was under control and now in the cooling-down phase,” Eko said at the scene on Monday.

Fifteen fire engines were deployed to expedite firefighting and prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings in the residential area.

During the operation, responders faced challenges due to limited freshwater sources on land. To ensure effective firefighting, they used seawater from the Muara Karang dock.

“Water sources on land were difficult to access, so we used seawater from the dock end,” Eko said.

According to Eko, using seawater was an alternative measure that allowed responders to quickly control the fire in the coastal area.

There were no casualties as the homeowner was not present at the time of the fire.

The site is currently in the cooling-down phase to ensure no remaining hotspots.

Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is under investigation, with authorities gathering statements and on-site data.
