Fire Breaks Out in Istiqlal Mosque CCTV Room During First Ramadan Taraweh Prayers

A fire broke out in the CCTV room of Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (18/2) at approximately 20:13 Western Indonesian Time, whilst the first taraweh prayers of Ramadan 2026 were in progress.

“The object [that caught fire was] the CCTV room of Istiqlal Mosque,” according to data from the Fire Service Command Centre.

Nine fire engines and 36 personnel were deployed to the scene to tackle the blaze.

The firefighting operation began at 20:17 WIB and was declared complete 25 minutes later at 20:37 WIB. The taraweh prayer service continued safely throughout.

According to Command Centre data, there were no casualties in the incident. However, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

“The suspected cause is still under investigation,” a spokesperson said.
