Fire Breaks Out in Dense Central Jakarta Neighbourhood; 31 Fire Engines Deployed

A fire broke out in a residential neighbourhood on Jalan Menteng Jaya, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (27 October). Residents first reported the blaze at around 9.05pm local time.

“Residential property,” the Fire and Rescue Service Command Centre data was quoted as saying.

A total of 31 fire engines and 155 personnel were deployed to the scene to tackle the blaze.

Firefighting operations began at 9.10pm. Firefighters were still working at the scene to put out the flames.

“The fire is currently being extinguished (red status),” it said.

According to fire service data, crews faced difficulties because the road providing access to the site was narrow.

“Access to the scene is narrow, so deployment has been maximised with 2,500-litre pump units,” it said.

The cause of the fire in the residential area was not yet known.
