Fire Breaks Out at Putri Cempo Landfill in Solo
A fire has occurred at the Putri Cempo landfill in Solo, Central Java. Firefighters struggled for more than two hours to extinguish the flames in Block B.
According to reports on Wednesday (2/9/2026), the fire began spreading on the eastern side and intensified due to strong winds. The Head of the Environmental Agency (DLH), Herwin Tri Nugroho, stated that the fire is suspected to have originated from the waste piles.
“Yes, it came from the waste piles, but because they are covered, it was not visible from the post as it is behind the building. Furthermore, because the wind this evening was strong, it expanded the fire’s location,” he said when met at the scene.
Meanwhile, the Head of Mojosongo Village, Katarina Kartika, stated that she initially received reports from the heads of RW 30 and 39 regarding the fire at Putri Cempo. Katarina noted that she received the news at approximately 6:00 PM WIB.
“Earlier, around 6 PM, I was called by the head of RW 30, saying that Putri Cempo was on fire. After that, the head of RW 39, Mr Andri, also called me. I happened to be on the road and had not yet returned home when I was informed of the fire at Putri Cempo,” she said.
Katarina does not yet know the exact cause of the fire. According to her, this incident is the largest fire at the site in recent years.
