A fire broke out at the Pullman Hotel in the West Jakarta area and has since been successfully extinguished. It is suspected that the fire originated from an electrical fault.

“The firefighting operation is complete,” stated the Command Centre of the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), as reported by detikcom on Saturday (1/8/202<0xC2>6).

The extinguishing operation was declared finished at 09:15 WIB. A total of 70 firefighters were deployed during the operation, alongside 14 fire engines sent to the location.

“The suspected cause is an electrical phenomenon on the second floor,” the official stated.

When the fire was first detected, security personnel attempted to extinguish the flames using portable fire extinguishers (APAR). However, as the flames were too large to be contained, they reported the incident to the fire department.

“Regarding the chronology, at 07:54 WIB, a security guard conducting an inspection of the emergency stairs on level P5 detected the smell of smoke. Upon investigation, fire was found on level P4. They attempted to extinguish it using APAR, but were unable to do so and subsequently notified the local Sub-Department Office,” the official explained.

Footage circulating on social media showed flames visible on the exterior of the building, with large flames and thick black smoke billowing from the structure.
