Fire breaks out at Djakarta Theater building

Jakarta (ANTARA) - A fire broke out at the Djakarta Theatre building on Jalan MH Thamrin No.9, RT 002/001 Kebon Sirih, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday evening.

Head of the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Marulitua Sijabat, said the fire was suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit in one of the rooms in the building.

“The suspicion is that it was caused by an electrical short circuit. The affected area was the XXI kitchen in the Djakarta Theatre building,” Marulitua said when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday evening.

He said there were no injuries or fatalities resulting from the incident.

Firefighters moved quickly to tackle the blaze, which began at around 21:30 Western Indonesia Time (WIB), preventing the flames from spreading to other rooms in the building.

“Zero casualties; the firefighting operation has been completed,” he said.

According to information from the Jakarta Command Centre, the firefighting operation was completed at 21:50 WIB, using one vehicle crewed by four personnel.

Although there were no casualties, losses from the incident were estimated at Rp20 million.
