A fire engulfed Building D of the Directorate General for Village Governance Development at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta. Ten fire trucks were deployed to extinguish the flames.

The Head of the Public Relations Centre (Kapuspen) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Benny Irwan, stated that the fire broke out at 1:30 PM WIB on Monday (20/4/2026). He emphasised that the building affected was not the Dukcapil (Civil Registry) building.

“I need to clarify that the fire occurred at Building D of the Directorate General for Village Governance, not at the Dukcapil building. Although Dukcapil and Village Governance are in the same complex, the buildings are far apart,” Benny told reporters.

Benny explained that the fire started from the side of a clinic in the Directorate General for Village Governance complex. The area contained various used items.

“The fire was first seen there, then it grew larger, causing the first floor of the cooperative and the clinic to burn,” he said.

Benny also noted that the flames spread to the second floor of the Directorate General for Village Governance’s office space. Nevertheless, he confirmed there were no casualties in the incident.

After about two hours of firefighting efforts, the blaze was extinguished by 3:00 PM WIB. Benny mentioned that the fire also impacted one resident’s house.

“By 3:00 PM WIB, the fire was under control, and cooling operations were underway. This included the area around Building D. At the back of Building D, there is a residential house that was somewhat affected in its garage and bathroom, as well as the water tank,” he explained.

Benny stated that the cause of the fire and the extent of losses are still being investigated. The Ministry of Home Affairs is conducting an inventory, including the impact on the building.

South Jakarta Fire Department deployed 75 personnel. According to Antara, observations at the scene showed several civil servants (ASN) in brown uniforms outside the building, evacuating themselves and their belongings.
