Fire Breaks Out at Binus University Kebon Jeruk Campus: Here is the Timeline

Fire breaks out at Binus University Kebon Jeruk campus, Jakarta Barat, in the Auditorium on the 4th floor, on Friday (22 May). According to verified reports, the fire appeared to originate from the auditorium area. Thick black smoke was observed rising from the top of the building, which was promptly responded to by campus security by contacting the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat).

‘The affected area is the auditorium, 4th floor of Binus Cakra campus,’ said Sudin Fire Control and Rescue (Gulkarmat) West Jakarta, Saiful Kahfi, on Friday (22 May).

As the fire grew, the building’s fire alarm reportedly activated, enabling self-evacuation through the emergency stairs. As of this report, there have been no official reports of casualties or injuries.

Police from Kebon Jeruk sector station (Polsek Kebon Jeruk) were on the scene to manage traffic around the campus to facilitate access for fire engines that continued to arrive.

As a result, all teaching activities at Binus Kebon Jeruk Campus were temporarily suspended. Students were asked to move away from the building for safety and to facilitate extinguishing operations.

Regarding the exact cause of the fire, authorities said data is being validated through further investigative processes after the fire was fully extinguished. Preliminary indications point to an electrical installation fault, but this is pending the results of the official crime scene investigation.
