Fire Breaks Out Again in the Mount Arjuno-Welirang Area
Forest fires have broken out again at several locations around the Mount Arjuno-Welirang area this evening. The flames were clearly visible from the Malang toll gate.
Dhimas Caraka, head of Resort 03 Pasuruan at the R. Soerjo Grand Forest Park (Tahura), said a blaze was burning in the Gumandar Block on Mount Arjuno. The site is at an elevation of about 2,100 metres above sea level, in Jatiarjo village, Prigen sub-district.
The fire on the slopes of Mount Arjuno was first reported on Thursday afternoon (15 October) and was still burning at the time of reporting.
Tahura officers and volunteers then headed to the site by land to extinguish the fire. The team comprised 11 people: four Tahura officers and seven volunteers.
“The fire is large. Efforts to put it out by land are still under way,” Dhimas said, as quoted by detikJatim.
Meanwhile, the fire on Mount Ringgit is in an area managed by Perhutani. Munawar, administrator of the Pasuruan Forest Management Unit (KPH), said the fire was in Dayurejo village, Prigen sub-district, at an elevation of 900 metres above sea level.
“Perhutani officers and volunteers are still trying to extinguish the fire at the site,” he said.
