Cooling operations today remain ongoing, according to an officer at the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service’s Command Center (Gulkarmat) on Friday, 22 May 2026. The firefighting operation had been under way since Monday, 18 May, at 14:31 WIB, shortly after the blaze hit the plastic factory. The cooling process has been carried out by Damkar since 16:20 WIB. During the cooling process, the fire had been brought under control by the fire service. During cooling, firefighters continued to spray water onto materials inside the building. Staff combed through embers and separated materials inside the building that could rekindle the fire. Gulkarmat said the cooling process would take days due to the large area and the abundance of flammable materials in the plastic factory. “The obstacle is that the burned area is large and the fuel materials are difficult to extinguish quickly,” he said. The burned area of the building is around 1,000 square metres. Today, four fire engines and twenty personnel were deployed to the firefighting operation at the building. The plastic factory and warehouse that were on fire are located on Jalan Peternakan Raya, Gang Semut, RT 06 RW 04, Kapuk Sub-district, Cengkareng District. Gulkarmat also deployed a robot to assist with extinguishing the blaze and to scour the interior for hazardous gases and other potential dangers. “Chronology: a worker present in the warehouse storing cardboard and plastic suddenly observed the fire had grown, reported it to security and attempted to extinguish it with a portable fire extinguisher (APAR), before security contacted the fire brigade,” he said. Three people were injured in the incident, consisting of two responders and one member of the public. The victims have received medical attention.
