Fire at vegetable stalls and motorcycle workshop in Manggarai: 1 dead, 2 motorcycles destroyed

A fire razed vegetable stalls and a motorcycle workshop in Satar Tacik, Langke Rembong District, Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). One vegetable stall owner named Mel, aged 70, died in the blaze. ‘There was one casualty,’ Langke Rembong Sub-district Secretary Adrianus Andi Pati Sombuk told detikBali when contacted on Thursday, 21 May 2026. The fire occurred on Thursday morning and, in addition to the death, it also burnt two motorcycles at the site. The equipment in the workshop was also burnt. ‘Two units of two-wheeled vehicles burned,’ he added. Adrianus has not yet established the chronology of Mel’s death and has not received information on whether Mel was selling vegetables or sleeping when the fire broke out. ‘We don’t know for certain whether the victim was sleeping or selling. The people say the fire was already large.’ To date, the cause or source of the ignition remains unknown. Police have set up a police line at the location and are conducting an on-site investigation (TKP).
