A large fire at a rubber sandal factory on Jl. KH. Agus Salim, Poris Plawad, Cipondoh, Tangerang City, Banten, has been raging for approximately nine hours and has yet to be extinguished. Firefighters remain on the scene battling the blaze.

“The extinguishing process is still ongoing,” said Andia Suherlandia, Head of Emergency and Logistics at the Tangerang City BPBD, on Monday (22/6/2026).

He confirmed the fire is at a sandal factory that uses rubber as its primary material.

Authorities received the initial report of the fire at around 10:31 p.m. WIB on Sunday (21/6) evening. The fire department immediately deployed 95 personnel and 19 fire engines to the location, with firefighting operations commencing at approximately 10:45 p.m. WIB.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and there have been no reports of casualties so far.

Video footage from the scene shows the factory is located near residential areas, but nearby homes are reportedly still safe. Thick black smoke continues to billow from the site.

Officials stated that the firefighting efforts are being hampered by the large, rapidly spreading fire. Three separate areas within the factory are ablaze, containing finished goods made from rubber and various chemical substances, which are complicating the extinguishing process.

“When the report came in, the fire was already large and spreading. Three areas are burning, containing finished sandals, solid rubber raw materials, and various chemical liquids used in production,” the official said.

He added that the characteristics of these materials require a longer time to extinguish. Personnel are currently focusing on mitigating the impact of the smoke on residents, assisted by Tangerang City volunteer firefighters. “Our handling is focused on cutting off the spread of the fire and securing a 20,000-litre chemical tank and dozens of drums to prevent an explosion,” he said.
