Fire at Tangerang Sandal Factory Rages for 11 Hours, Firefighters Face Obstacles
A fire has engulfed the flip-flop sandal factory of PT Murni Karetindo Lestari (King Stone) in Cipondoh, Tangerang City. Firefighters are still working to extinguish the blaze and are taking measures to prevent it from spreading to nearby residential areas.
Mahdiar, Head of the Tangerang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), stated that crews are spraying water on the rear section of the factory, which is close to residential housing. They are working to stop the fire from spreading to the community.
“This (the rear section) was the worst affected point during the fire last night, at the back of the factory near residential areas. Thank God, so far the residential areas are safe and under control,” Mahdiar said on Monday (22/6/2026).
Firefighters are currently cooling down areas where piles of material are burning. “To prevent the fire from reigniting,” he said.
The Tangerang City BPBD has deployed massive resources. A total of 19 fire engines from the Tangerang City Fire Department have been dispatched to the scene. The firefighting operation involves a combined force of 133 personnel.
It is known that the large fire broke out at a sandal factory on Jalan Melati Raya, Tanah Tinggi, on Sunday night (21/6). Firefighting efforts began at 10:45 PM Western Indonesian Time.
Andia Suherlandia, Head of Emergency and Logistics at the Tangerang City BPBD, reported that personnel on the ground are facing several difficulties in extinguishing the fire.
Andia explained that there are several localised areas at the site making suppression difficult. These include areas containing finished sandals, solid raw materials such as rubber, and various chemical liquids.
“There are three localised areas that are burning, containing finished sandal goods, solid raw materials like rubber, and various chemical liquids used to support production. The characteristics of these materials require a longer time for the extinguishing process,” Andia said.
