Fire at South Jakarta Drug Warehouse Extinguished, Blamed on Electrical Short Circuit

The building that caught fire in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, has been confirmed to be an office and pharmaceutical warehouse. The Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat) said the blaze has now been extinguished.

“The object that burned was the office and medicine warehouse of PT Metiska Farma. Status: extinguishing completed,” said Asril Rizal, Head of the South Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-department, to reporters on Tuesday (28/7/2026).

Asril said the fire was suspected to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit. He said there were no deaths or injuries in the incident.

“The suspected cause, based on initial suspicions, is an electrical phenomenon,” he said.

He revealed that the first witness to see the flames was the building’s security officer. The witness saw fire burning in the corridor at the rear, to the left of the machinery warehouse.

“The security officer then attempted to extinguish it using a portable fire extinguisher, but was unsuccessful because the fire had already grown large, so he contacted the Fire Sub-department,” he explained.

The warehouse caught fire at 6.48pm WIB. A total of 28 fire engines and 185 personnel were deployed to extinguish the blaze. The fire was confirmed extinguished at 9.13pm WIB.
