Fire at Putri Cempo Landfill in Solo Leads to Evacuation of One Neighbourhood

Several residents have been evacuated following a fire at the Putri Cempo landfill, located in Mojosongo Village, Jebres District, Solo, Central Java.

The Mayor of Solo, Respati Ardi, stated that one neighbourhood (RT) was evacuated as a result of the fire at the Putri Cempo landfill. Additionally, the Solo City Government has distributed masks to the community surrounding the landfill to minimise health disturbances caused by the fire.

“We are ensuring that the affected residents are evacuated. We are taking immediate anticipatory measures to prevent any unwanted incidents,” Respati told the media on Wednesday (2/9) evening.

In a separate interview, the Acting Head of the Solo City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Ari Dwi Daryatmo, noted that the evacuation targeted residents in RT 3 RW 39, Mojosongo Village.

“According to reports from the Village Head, residents requested to be evacuated to the village office because they were significantly affected. The BPBD has prepared mats, blankets, and other logistics,” said Ari.

He added that families requested to be moved from their homes because they could no longer tolerate the excessively thick smoke from the fire.

Respati later revealed that the fire originated from a single point. “Initial information suggests there was one block affected. However, due to strong winds, the fire spread to the adjacent block,” said Respati.

According to information gathered, the fire began in Block D of the Putri Cempo landfill, a detail which Respati confirmed when questioned.

At this time, the cause of the fire at the Putri Cempo landfill remains unknown. Respati did not provide a definitive answer when asked about the trigger of the blaze.
