Fire at Ministry of Home Affairs Office in South Jakarta, 18 Fire Trucks Deployed, 6 People Injured
JAKARTA - A fire occurred at the building of the Directorate General of Village Governance, Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), on Jalan Raya Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Monday afternoon (20/4/2026). A total of 18 fire engine units were deployed to extinguish the fire, while six people were reported to have been injured. Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) volunteer, Moza, stated that the victims consisted of employees and personnel who suffered minor injuries to respiratory distress due to smoke. One of the victims who experienced shortness of breath is known to have a history of asthma. She received medical treatment in an ambulance before her condition improved. “One person is in the ambulance because she has a history of asthma. She’s already improved, but her mother wants her to stay in the ambulance,” she said. The victims immediately received treatment from PMI volunteers who were on standby in front of the main building of the Directorate General of Village Governance. Meanwhile, employees were seen rushing out of the building and gathering in the office courtyard. In addition to the 18 fire engine units deployed to the location, five of them were stationed in the building’s courtyard to accelerate the extinguishing process. Until 3:10 PM WIB, personnel were still carrying out the cooling process. Thin smoke was still visible coming out from several parts of the building’s windows, indicating that remnants of the fire were still being handled.
