Fire at Kalideres rental units and shops causes Rp 1 billion in losses

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A fire broke out at shops and three rental units on Jalan Permata Dalam, Tegal Alur, Kalideres District, West Jakarta, in the early hours of Sunday (24 May 2026). West Jakarta’s Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat) confirmed there were no fatalities from the blaze. ‘The fire department received the alert at 3:57 AM WIB and began extinguishing the fire at 4:06 AM WIB,’ said Achmad Syaiful Kahfi, Head of Operations (Kasie Ops) of West Jakarta’s Gulkarmat, when contacted by Kompas.com via text message on Sunday. The fire was extinguished at 5:30 AM WIB. Syaiful explained that 16 people from four families were affected by the fire. ‘There were no injuries or fatalities,’ he added. The incident went viral on social media on Sunday. A video posted by @warga.jakbar showed intense flames engulfing the area. Faint voices of residents watching the fire could be heard, along with the call to prayer (azan) in the recording.
