JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) has assured that public services will continue to operate normally despite a fire at Building D of the Directorate General for Village Governance and Dukcapil in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Monday (20/4/2026).

Secretary of the Directorate General for Village Governance at Kemendagri, Murtono, emphasised that service activities will not be disrupted and will proceed in another building within the Kemendagri complex.

“Services will continue tomorrow, there are no issues,” said Murtono at the fire scene on Monday, quoted from Antara.

“Civil servants will adapt; it’s impossible to return to work in that building,” he stated.

Murtono added that services today are still adjusting due to the ongoing cooling process at the fire location.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Dukcapil at Kemendagri, Teguh Setyabudi, expressed appreciation to the firefighters for their quick handling of the incident.

“We thank and appreciate the performance of the Fire Department; the personnel were extraordinary, and the fire is now starting to be extinguished,” said Teguh.

The fire was first reported emerging from the second floor of the building and then spreading to involve several rooms.

A total of 75 personnel from the South Jakarta Sub-Directorate for Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) were deployed to the scene.

The fire report was received at 13:38 WIB, and personnel began handling it around 13:47 WIB.

Seven fire engine units were deployed to extinguish the flames.

The fire also impacted traffic flow on Jalan Raya Pasar Minggu. Several road users were seen stopping on the roadside to watch the extinguishing process.

This situation caused temporary congestion around the location before officers regulated traffic in the area.
