Fire at IKIP Complex in Duren Sawit Destroys 40 Houses
Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Sudin Gulkarmat) personnel carried out cooling operations after a fire swept through a residential area in the IKIP Complex, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, on Tuesday (25/8/2026). The blaze, which broke out at around 9.20 a.m. local time, destroyed at least 40 permanent and semi-permanent houses.
A total of 18 fire engines and 90 personnel were deployed to bring the flames under control and prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings. Once the fire was contained, firefighters carried out cooling operations by spraying water on parts of the structures that still contained embers to ensure there was no reignition. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
