Fire at Cipayung Landfill in Depok, Four Fire Engines Deployed
A fire broke out at the Cipayung final disposal site (TPA) in Depok, West Java, on Thursday evening. Head of Operational Control at the Depok Fire and Rescue Service, Tessy Haryati, said firefighters were still struggling to extinguish the blaze. “For now, four fire engines with 16 personnel,” Tessy said when contacted on Thursday. The fire engines were deployed from the Cipayung Unit, Depok Fire Headquarters, and Cinere Unit. Firefighters received the report at 8.23pm Western Indonesian Time. “The extinguishing process is still ongoing, please pray for us,” she said. In a video uploaded to the Depok Fire Department’s Instagram account, @depokfirerescue113, large flames could be seen with smoke billowing from the Cipayung landfill. Firefighters were seen continuously spraying water towards the flames. The cause and chronology of the fire are not yet known. “We don’t know yet, we are focusing on the extinguishing operation first,” she stated.
