Fire at Cikini Central Shop-House Building Suspected to Have Originated on Third Floor
A fire that broke out at the Central shop-house building on Jalan Cikini Raya, Menteng, Central Jakarta, is suspected to have originated on the third floor of the structure. However, the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to the Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat).
Head of Operations for Central Jakarta Gulkarmat, Triyanto, stated that the fire is believed to have started on the third floor of the five-storey building. According to witness accounts, smoke and flames were visible on the third floor at around 2.40pm Western Indonesian Time (WIB). Witnesses attempted to extinguish the fire using a light fire extinguisher, but the flames spread and grew uncontrollably. Security personnel then reported the incident to the fire department after hearing shouts from project workers.
A total of 22 fire engines and 110 personnel were deployed to the scene to combat the blaze. The firefighting operation was declared complete at 5.32pm WIB. Triyanto confirmed that there were no casualties resulting from the incident, while the estimated financial losses are still being assessed.
