Fire at Bogor Islamic Boarding School Affects 56 Children

Bogor City (ANTARA) - A fire that occurred at the Al Falakiyah Pagentongan Islamic boarding school, located in the Loji Ward, West Bogor District, Bogor City, West Java, on Saturday afternoon, has affected 56 children.

The Mayor of Bogor, Dedie A Rachim, stated that of the 56 affected children, 31 are undergoing treatment at the PMI Bogor Hospital, while others are being handled at various health facilities.

“A total of 56 children were affected by the fire. They were attempting to extinguish the flames when the fire broke out,” he said while visiting the victims at the PMI Bogor Hospital.

He noted that most of the children experienced shortness of breath due to inhaling excessive smoke while trying to put out the fire.

“Because the items burning were foam mattresses and sponge materials, most of them suffered from respiratory distress,” he added.

Of the 3 <<31 children receiving treatment at the PMI Bogor Hospital, five sustained burns to their fingers.

The other children are receiving medical attention at several health facilities in Bogor City, including Hermina Hospital, UMMI Hospital, Bogor City Regional General Hospital (RSUD), and various community health centres (Puskesmas).

Dedie mentioned that the condition of the affected children is currently in the recovery process, particularly those suffering from respiratory issues caused by smoke inhalation.

“Overall, these children are being treated for recovery, especially for their shortness of breath caused by prolonged exposure to smoke,” he said.
