JAKARTA – A fire at the Afterhour bar and billiards venue in Poins Square, Cilandak, South Jakarta has left one person with burns. South Jakarta Fire Department on-duty officer Anwar Kasim said the victim, identified as E (36), was rushed to hospital by a friend during the firefighting operation. “There was one casualty with minor burns. He was taken to Pondok Indah Hospital by his friend,” Anwar said at the scene on Monday. Several cafe employees initially attempted to extinguish the flames using fire extinguishers, but the fire spread too quickly. They eventually called the fire department. Fourteen fire trucks and 54 personnel were deployed to tackle the blaze. “The fire started in the kitchen area, and the preliminary suspicion is a gas leak,” he said. The fire was contained by 8:57 pm WIB. Meanwhile, an employee, identified as Indira (not her real name), said the incident was shocking. She said staff were evacuated and it was unclear whether the cafe would resume operations. “We don’t know yet if operations will continue. There’s no guidance yet, and we’re still in shock,” she said separately. The main entrance remains deserted, with occasional visits from Satpol PP and police officers checking the site. In the parking area, shattered facade debris littered the wet concrete surface from water used to extinguish the fire.
