Bogor, KOMPAS.com – A one-year-old child, initials Z, died in a fire that struck a rented house in Tegallega, Bogor Tengah, Bogor City, on Thursday evening (5 March 2026). In addition to the victim, two other family members sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at PMI Bogor Hospital. Bogor Tengah Police Chief Commissioner Waluyo said police received reports of the fire shortly before Tarawih prayers. He explained that the incident involved a single family of three people. Based on on-site identification at the scene, police suspect the fire originated from a stove that was in use for cooking. Waluyo explained that the fire is suspected to have occurred while the occupant was sleeping while cooking. When awakened, the fire had already spread inside the rented house. ‘The suspicion at this stage is that it came from the stove; perhaps they were cooking and then drifted off to sleep, so by the time they woke up, the fire was already raging,’ he said. As a result of the incident, the other two victims sustained burns to various parts of their bodies. They are currently undergoing intensive treatment at PMI Hospital Bogor. Police are continuing further investigations to determine the precise cause of the fire.
