Finding Digital Economy Opportunities Through an Entrepreneurial Mindset

The development of the digital economy today is not merely changing the way we transact; it is completely reshaping the landscape of business opportunities for the younger generation. Bank Indonesia’s records, which show consistent growth in digital economy and finance transactions, demonstrate the scale of the shift in public behaviour. In this era, starting a business no longer necessarily requires substantial physical capital, but rather creativity and the effective use of digital platforms.

Yet, amid easier access to technology and social media, a fundamental question arises: does this convenience automatically produce competitive entrepreneurs?

In my view, the biggest challenge facing young people today is no longer whether technology is available, but whether they have the courage and readiness of mind to make use of it.

Entrepreneurship is not simply about setting up a business or selling a product. More than that, it is the ability to identify problems around us and turn them into solutions with economic value.

Technology gives students considerable scope to express business ideas innovatively. Nevertheless, enthusiasm alone is not enough. The success of a sustainable business still rests on a solid foundation of management knowledge. Without careful planning, a focused marketing strategy, disciplined financial management and a thorough understanding of customer needs, a business will struggle to survive in a highly dynamic market.

As members of the academic community at Universitas Nusa Mandiri (UNM), which identifies itself as a Digital Business Campus, we recognise the importance of combining conventional management knowledge with the dynamics of modern technology. Entrepreneurship education must not stop at theory in the classroom; it must also develop adaptability and innovation in students.

Young people must be ready to face the digital economy with leadership, strategic thinking and social awareness. Ultimately, the ability to adapt and the courage to innovate are key if young people are to do more than watch the wave of digitalisation: they must become creators of job opportunities and drivers of the economy in the future.
